The Smithsonian Learning Lab is a web platform that allows users to discover Smithsonian Institution digital resources, and use them to create and share collections tailored to their needs and that of their target audiences. Concurrent with the Smithsonian Learning Lab‘s launch in 2016, several Smithsonian divisions started using the platform. This report, Documenting the Use of the Smithsonian Learning Lab Among Smithsonian Museums, Research Centers, and Programmatic Offices, presents eight case studies highlighting internal usage for the purposes of distance learning, training, curatorial research, fundraising, and partnership-related initiatives.
I served as the PI on this research while interning at the Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access (SCLDA), a pan-institutional research center at the Smithsonian. I conducted and transcribed interviews; developed data collection questionnaires, consent forms, and rubrics; and drafted summaries of case study data for internal and public consumption.
